Gross WPM represents your raw typing speed calculated as total characters typed divided by 5, divided by minutes taken. Net WPM is your actual speed after deducting penalizing mistakes. In government exams, only Net WPM determines whether you qualify.
Candidates have the choice between Mangal (Inscript layout) and Remington (CBI / GAIL layout). Unicode-based Mangal Inscript is the modern national standard and is universally supported across all government examination centers.
Even if your typing speed is 50+ WPM, exceeding the category error percentage limit (e.g., more than 7% errors for UR in SSC CHSL) results in immediate disqualification in the typing tier.
